Roofing Repair Toronto

Roofing repair in Toronto is made simple and easy by selecting a reputable and professional company that specialises in key roofing repair areas such as cedar roofing, slate roofing, flat roofing and roof shingles.  An experienced company such as DVR Roofing would also be qualified in building residential new roof installations and existing residential roof repairs.

Cedar Roofing

When looking to repair cedar roofs, the most obvious question is: what type of cedar roof is it?  Has it been built with cedar shingles or cedar shakes? Cedar roofing is made of an all-natural, sustainable and environmentally friendly material, so skilled roofers and craftsmen will need to be hired for the job.  On average, a cedar roof should last between 20-50 years.

Slate Roofing

Slate roofs are perhaps the most common type of roofs to repair as they are generally the preferred material used when roofing buildings.  The reasons for this are that slate roofs are extremely durable, and they are built to withstand extreme temperatures and weather, as slate is a non-porous material.  However, common issues can arise that require slate roof repair such as leaks, cracked slates, nail fatigue leading to slipping slates, or damaged laths and battens.   An experienced and qualified roofing contractor should be hired to repair these faults.

Flat Roofing

Flat roofs are a common type of roof for commercial and apartment buildings.  The most common type of flat roof repair is leaks, damage due to weathering over time or simply poor installation.  In order to address these, or perhaps other more serious issues, you should know what type of flat roof has been built.  Five common types of flat roof are;
  • Built up roofing or BUR:  This type has been made illegal in some cities.  This method simply uses overlapping rolls of treated felt, which are then treated with tar or asphalt to seal it.  It is prone to brittleness and cracking.
  • Single-Ply Membrane Roofs:  This flat roof requires heat treatment with a propane torch to seal the seams.  It is usually only one layer, so the membrane can be easily damaged.
  • Sprayed Polyurethane Foam Roof:   The roof is sprayed or squeegeed to the surface of the flat roof and usually requires two coats to protect it.
  • Modified Bitumen (Asphalt) Roll Roofing:  This flat roof uses a single layer of asphalt treated and granule coated felt.  It can be cold cement sealed or heat sealed to the base sheet of the roof.
  • "SA" Self-adhesive (SBS, APP or modified bitumen) rolls:  It can be applied as a single cap sheet to a flat roof or as a base sheet.

Roof Shingles

There are many types of roof shingles available such as slate, cedar, flagstone, plastic, metal, fibre cement or asphalt.  Roof shingles are a very common roofing material, but are also know to deteriorate faster, thus needing to be either repaired or replaced more often.  When dealing with cedar shingle roof repair, the most common thing to know is if it is a shingle or shake (shingles have been sawn, shakes have been split).  The most common reasons to repair or replace shingles are:

  • Curling shingle edges
  • Asphalt granules in the eavestrough
  • Leaks (Roof and interior showing water damage)
  • Moss growth
  • Visible buckling of roof shingles
